Repainting a Pool Cue

Repainting a Pool Cue

I'm not an billiards player, but an air brush artist.

Today I was asked to repaint a pool cue with some flames on it as a graphic.

So my question to you is if it would be safe to grid a cue with 1500 FE, paint it with water-based acrylic paint for a black background, add some acrylic airbrush paint for the flames, and then put a varnish on it?

Do you know what kind of varnish I can use?

Or do you know other tips, or maybe reasons why I shouldn't do this?

Very interesting. Reasons for not doing it: How valuable is the cue to the owner in terms of use, need, sentimental and emotional? Is it an expensive cue monetarily that would cause the owner grief if it does nor work out as planned? Who is prepared to take the hit if it does not work out as planned? Will you have in your possession a written agreement between both parties that spells out the end result and acceptance of. I can appreciate your talent and what you do and I am only playing Devil's Advocate here. Once you accept the cue, you accept responsibily for the finished product so make sure you are both on the same page as to the finish. And have it in writing.

Using 1500 grid should be okay as long as it is done lightly. Weigh the cue before you begin and try to stay at that same weight for the finish product. Balance is important in cue sticks so discuss it with the owner. Please post the finished product when it is done for all to see.

    Good luck with it.
