Billiard Stroke Drills of Rich Presley

Billiard Stroke Drills of Rich Presley

When I started playing the game seriously, I had trouble understanding “stroke”. My teacher showed me these drills and within a couple of weeks my stroke was as good as his.

He showed me these two stroke drills, which have improved my game 100%. I had a bad habit, as many of us do, of “poking” at the cue ball when under pressure.

These two drills have almost completely eliminated a bad stroke from my game. Whenever my game goes off, I go back to these two simple drills and I’m back on track in no time.

Billiard Stroke Drill 1

Stroke Drill number One I call “Rich Presley 1”, after my teacher who showed it to me. The shot involves the set up below, with the english shown.

Because you are applying some left english you must aim your object ball to the left point, or side of the pocket, depending on the conditions. The desired cue ball position is IMPOSSIBLE unless you have a perfect stroke on the shot. The better your stroke, the better your position on the 8-ball. It looks simple, but this is a hard and frustrating drill at first, but it really teaches you “stroke”.

Billiard Stroke Drill 2

The 2nd stroke drill is “Rich Presley 2”. Using the same english try to get the same desired result of good position on the 8.

Again you must aim to the extreme left side of the pocket or the point, and you MUST have a good stroke to do this drill.

These are good drills. Beginners will learn that a straight-in shot is not always shot straight into the center of the pocket. Pick your spot to enter the pocket.
