You must get from the 3-ball to the 4-ball, avoiding the traffic in the middle of the table. To achieve this, play the pot striking about 1/2 a tip below center (there is NO NEED to use side on this shot - in fact, more can go wrong if you do).
Aim to hit the side rail at the 3rd diamond (position C) with a firm stroke, and the cue ball will continue until it reaches position D.
Note: In this example it is better to strike this shot harder rather than softer. If you strike it soft, you may not get far enough up the table to have a chance of the 4. But if you strike just a little bit too hard, the cue ball will bounce off the head rail, and may even go on to around diamond 14 or thereabouts. As you can see - you still have a shot.
