Defensive Billiard Strategy

As in most sports, there is offensive play and there is defensive play. It is agrued that to be successful in a sport, you need to combine both of these. Most billiards games are no different. This billiard tip will discuss how to play safeties with great power and finesse. To accomplish this, you will require more than just offensive skill, or the ability to pocket a difficult shot.

Defensive Billiard Strategy and Safety Shots

Mr. Efren Reys is considered the master of the safety. Although to the average onlooker, it appears that Efren is simply running the table by pocketing balls left, right and center, and winning the game. Most wonder how he can make it look all so easy and generally don't realize the safety aspect of Efren's billiard game. When one looks deeper at Efren's game, it is clear that there is much more than offensive strategy at work here. Efren has a great defensive game as well, and the reason most people don't realize it, is because he works so hard to make his safety play blend in. Half of the time, his opponents may not even know what is happening, which is what helps make Efren's play so successful.

To play a safety means that you are executing a "defensive" move, designed to hinder you opponent's offensive game, and to buy time for more careful planning of your own offense. Blocking an opponent's easier shots will wreak havoc with their mental game, demoralizes them, and may give you an edge you need to claim victory. Playing their emotions rigorously enough may cause them to make more mistakes. For you, this is a good thing.

Now that you have an idea of the power of a good defensive game and safety play, you will need to know how to implement it successfully. Knowing when to play offensive, and knowing when to play defensive will take your game to another level. The better you can blend you defensive game, the easier it will be fool your opponent. If you make your defense too obvious, the opponent can adjust their game accordingly to counteract your defensive safety strategy.

This should give you a general idea of the basics behind a defensive strategy. There will be more detailed articles forthcoming on the topic so be sure to check back soon.
