What Kind of Pool Table Is This?

What Kind of Pool Table Is This?

I'm purchasing a house and on the side have requested to purchase the owner's pool table along with the sale.

He said he'd sell it to me along with the other pool table equipment (light, rack, cues etc) for $900 bucks. I wanted to check to see if it was a good deal, so I need to know how much the pool table was new and perhaps what the brand and model number is. I've heard that some of the lower end junk pool tables don't have slate, but rather, just have plywood under the cloth.

Unfortunately I can't make out the emblem on the end of the table. Is there a good way to get more information on the pool table (BEFORE I give him the money...)?

Does anybody have a guess as to who made the table? If it helps, it's probably from the Tampa area.

    Anyone?

Any idea who makes it / what model it is?

I think just about every larger pool table manufacture made a table like this at some time in the past.

The important thing is whether it is a slate table or not. If it is a slate table, and the felt is servicable, then it is probably worth $900 to have it already set up and ready to play. If you were to purchase it, disassemble, and then set it up elsewhere, $900 would be iffy unless further details established worth. Conversely, It will probably cost him $200 to have the table disassembled and removed from the house unless he does it himself.

You can easily tell if it is slate by getting under the table and feeling the material the surface is made of. Slate is hard, smooth, medium grey, with an occasional line of other rock material giving it character.

I just got an email from my realtor (she'd posed the question for me...) saying that it isn't slate.

I think I'm going to hold off ~ I don't want to get a non slate table. He was willing to throw in the pool table light, mini refrigerator, wall decorations, pool stick holder w/ pool sticks, and chalk holder ~ which would have been great and all, but this way I'll be able to get exactly what I want...not settle.

Is there anybody from the Tampa area that knows of a good place to get a table? I've checked online and seen a few, but didn't know if there were places that were better that I haven't heard about.

    Thanks for the response

Yeah, I'd pass on it for sure. you can get a cheap, non-slate table brand new for under $500. You are better off saving up the little bit of extra cash and getting a good second-hand slate table.
